Liverpool were handed a big shock when former midfielder JonjoShelvey scored in the eighth minute to give Newcastle United the lead thanks in part to the mistake from Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara. It took the Reds thirteen (13) minutes to restore parity and it was in controversial manner after centre referee Mike Dean failed to stop the game with a Newcastle United player (Isaac Hayden) lying on the pitch and the Liverpool players capitalised on the situation for Diogo Jota to score the equaliser around the halfway stage of the first half. Jota has now scored nine goals in the Premier League this season.

Salah added a second Liverpool goal afterwards as he benefited from the mistake on the part of Shelvey. The Egyptian was able to extend his lead at the top of the scoring chart to six as he has 15 goals in total. The nearest challengers to him are Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota and Leicester City star Jamie Vardy.

The first 45 minutes ended at 2-1 in favour of hosts Liverpool and they didn’t make sure of the points until the final minutes of the game when Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a better to seal the 3-1 victory.
