Zinedine Zidane says that striker Karim Benzema should leave his problems off the pitch and focus on doing well on the game.
Benzema was recently omitted from the French squad due to his involvement in the blackmailing incident of his teammate. Apart from this incident, the striker has also been suffering from a thigh injury in the last few weeks. Benzema has not played since the 1-0 loss against Atletico Madrid last month. However, he returned to action and played for 81 minutes in the 4-0 win against Sevilla. Zidane refused to talk about the omission of his striker from the French squad.
Instead, he gave an advice to his international counterpart on the possibility of getting back into the national team. Even though Benzema’s international future remains under major doubt, Didier Deschamps recently spoke with confidence about the striker featuring in the Euro 2016. France will look towards winning the tournament due to the home advantage. Their previous victories in major tournaments have come when they have hosted the event. Apart from the niggling injuries, Benzema has been in good form for Real Madrid. He has 24 goals in just 26 matches, thus making him as one of the top strikers in the squad.
“I am not going to say whether the treatment of Benzema is fair or unfair. The only thing I want of the player is that he concentrates solely on football. We have spoken together and we believe the best thing is to think about football. The most important thing right now is that physically he is good. He is not feeling the effects of his injuries.Physically, after a break of 23 days it is difficult, but he has trained well since Tuesday and little by little is recovering his fitness,” said the Real Madrid manager.
