Premier League giants Manchester United have continued to be linked with a number of players ahead of the summer transfer window as they continue to assemble a team capable of locking horns with Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title and other trophies as well. The Red Devils want to sign a player in multiple departments in the squad, including the attack, the midfield, and the defensive departments and have identified this summer as the best time to complete their major deals.

Olé Gunnar Solksjær, Manchester United manager, has told the club’s board that he would like them to sign Kieran Trippier from Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid and would love them to complete this deal in the summer. The report goes on to claim that Solksjær is keen to bring competition for current regular right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka so the former Crystal Palace man can improve on his game.

Solksjær signed Alex Telles from Portuguese side Porto last season to provide competition for Luke Shaw for the left-back spot and the plan worked perfectly as Shaw improved on his game to become undroppable. The defender also regained a call-up to the England national team as a result of his upturn in form and all thanks to the move to bring Telles to the club.

It is believed that a similar improvement will happen on Wan-Bissaka’s game if a strong competitor is brought to the club and United have now reportedly approached Atletico Madrid about the possibility of signing Trippier this summer. If Atletico Madrid agree to sell the defender, they could be asking for a fee in the region of £20 million for the defender as they deem him an important part of the Rojiblancos squad. A deal for Trippier could be what United need for defensive reinforcements.
